Class Overview
Weaving You will first make a loom using wood and nails. Then you will learn to set up the warp and then you will begin weaving. You will be able to weave any material, yarn, roving, you will learn how to make yarn from old t-shirts.
Felting There are two ways you can felt. One is called needle felting. It is a dry process where you use a special needle to manually force fibers to interlock together. You can make little animals or decorate wool objects. We have purse kits that are designed to hold laptops or tablets. You can wall hangings as well.
Wet felting is the second method. This is where you can create scarves wall hangings by layering wool, then using water and soap you make the fibers interlock.
Sewing I can teach you how to use a sewing machine and get you over the learning curve. I mostly do collages with fabric using both hand stitches and free motion sewing. Free motion is like drawing with thread. I don’t use patterns for my sewing projects.
Dying can be done with dyes, rust or plants. This is like making your own fabric. Dying your own fabric can add complexity to your projects and raise your art to the next level. I usually do this about once a year to supply my studio with custom fabrics.
Skill Level Required
These workshops are designed for adults. You don’t need any previous skills, only a willingness to learn.
Materials & Tools Provided
Materials are included in the workshops. Sewing class you may need to bring your own fabric if you are looking to construct something other than wall hanging. Bring your sewing machine if you have one.
